Shaping the Future of the West End

Our Local Place Plan: Your Voice, Our Map

The West End Community Council is developing a Local Place Plan (LPP). This is a powerful new tool that gives us, the residents and businesses of the West End, a legal right to help shape the future of our neighborhood.

Instead of simply reacting to planning applications, the LPP allows us to proactively state what we want to see changed, protected, and improved over the next 10 years. Once completed, this plan must be taken into account by the City Council when they make decisions about local development, transport, and green spaces.

Why Your Input Matters

A Local Place Plan is only as strong as the community involvement behind it. Whether it’s a derelict building that needs a new lease on life, a street corner that feels unsafe, or a local park that needs better facilities, we need to know what matters to you.

By contributing to our interactive map, you are helping us build a robust evidence base that represents the true needs of the West End.

How to Use the Map

We’ve made it easy for you to pin your thoughts directly onto our community map:

1. Find the Location: Zoom into the street or landmark you want to comment on.

2. Add a Pin: Click or tap the map to drop a pin on that specific spot.

3. Tell Us Why: A form will appear. Choose a category (e.g., Like, Dislike, Change, or Protect) and leave a short comment.

4. See What Others Think: You can click on existing pins to see what your neighbours have suggested.

Privacy & Data

Your contributions are collected anonymously and will be used solely to inform the West End Local Place Plan. No personal contact details are stored within this map. If you would like to get more involved in the LPP working group, please email placeplan@edinburghwestendcc.org.uk
